SECTION 197 — Revenge on Witness

Whoever a) commits a contempt of a witness by reason of the evidence which he has given, unless, in the case of defamation, he proves the truth of the defamatory matter; or b) causes any loss to a witness by reason of the evidence which he has given,shall be punished with imprisonment for from 10 (ten) days to (1) one year, or with fine of from 10 000 (ten thousand) to CFAF 200 000 (two hundred thousand), or with both such imprisonment and fine.
