About Lex Cameroon

Lex Cameroon publishes the law of Cameroon and of the legal orders Cameroon belongs to — OHADA, CEMAC, the African Union, and ratified treaties — as searchable, dated, citable text. Reading and searching the law is free, and stays free.

Where the texts come from

Every text carries its source, its authentic language and its verification status. We never present a translation as the authority: where a text exists only in French we quote it in French, and where only in English, in English.

What the verification badges mean

Machine-parsed
Extracted and structured by machine with no human check. It may contain recognition errors. Verify against the gazette before relying on it professionally.
Spot-checked
Part of the text has been read by a person.
Verified
The text has been read in full.
Gazette-verified
The text has been checked against the official publication.

We publish unverified text and say so. A partial corpus whose limits are stated is more useful than a narrow one presented as complete.

Law has a date

There is no such thing as "the law" — there is the law as it stood on a date. Every provision carries its validity period, and you can read a text as it stood on a date you choose.

This is not legal advice

Lex Cameroon describes the law and the procedure. It does not tell you what to do in your matter. For advice on a particular situation, consult a lawyer admitted to the Bar.

Reporting an error

Errors will exist. Every provision carries a link to report one, and reports join the review queue. It is the most useful way to contribute.
