(1) (1) Municipal councillors shall be elected for a term of 5 (five)
years by universal suffrage and direct and secret ballot.
(2) They shall be eligible for re-election.
(3) The election shall take place 20 (twenty) days before the
expiry of the term of office of municipal councillors.
(4) The term of office of municipal councillors shall commence on
the day of the first session held as of right following the proclamation of the
results of the election. The said session shall hold on the second Tuesday
following the proclamation of results.
